We just keep growing. As Groq continues its amazing trajectory, we’re excited to expand our footprint in Toronto, Canada. My roots are in Canada, where I attended the University of Waterloo in Ontario, studying Electrical Engineering. Toronto has become a hotbed for innovation in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Toronto is also home to some of the world’s most renowned AI researchers and the city has a wealth of progressive thinkers coming out of university. The AI scene is thriving and we’ve been lucky enough to recruit some amazing talent. But we’re not done—we are continuing to substantially grow our presence in Toronto.

I’m often asked, “Why Groq?” when interviewing candidates. The answer is simple: Here you are at the center of building something that is literally redefining compute. We take an entirely new approach to accelerating AI with a simple, highly elegant architecture. Honestly, the opportunities are endless.

While we’re working remotely, that’s not stopping our preparations to expand, including a new office near the University of Toronto and Geoffrey Hinton’s Vector Institute. Recently, our executive team sat down to discuss Groq growth plans with the Minister of Economic Development for Job Creation and Trade, Vic Fedeli. It was an exciting meeting, with all of us sharing a vision of boosting Toronto’s economic climate and accelerating AI with innovative technologies.

Minister Fedeli summarized it nicely when he said, “Ontario is a premier innovation technology hub with some of the world’s best engineering and AI talent, world-leading academic institutions that produce nearly 50,000 STEM graduates annually, and preferential global market access.  We’re proud that Groq has chosen to expand their operations into Ontario, and will make an excellent addition to our thriving AI ecosystem.”

We also heard from Toronto Mayor, John Tory, expressing his excitement about our growth plans in Canada. According to Mr. Tory, “I am very pleased that Groq has chosen to locate its new office in our city, which will allow them to take advantage of our unmatched talent pipeline. Toronto is a magnet for companies around the world due to our highly-skilled, diverse workforce. Groq’s arrival will help our city as we work to restart and rebuild the economy, bolstering our world-renowned artificial intelligence sector as we look at sourcing new ideas and innovative solutions to stimulate the Toronto region’s economic recovery.”

As part of our outreach effort in Canada, we’re hitting the road (virtually, that is) giving technical talks at universities. Groq’s Toronto site leader and Director of Software Engineering and Machine Learning Compilers, Andrew Ling, recently spoke at the University of Toronto and the University of Waterloo, and is preparing for another talk at McGill University on February 22 at 11:45 a.m. EST where he’ll share Groq’s approach to solving deep learning workloads and high-performance computing. If you’re interested in learning more about Groq’s innovative architecture, we encourage you to join the Zoom session.

Across the United States and Canada, we are reimagining AI. If you’re looking to challenge yourself—and the entire industry—come join us! We’re building something amazing.
